Faith and Impossibility

Today I will be very brief and start on a personal note. This week has been very different for me. It has been horrible, but maybe in a good way. I don’t know how much I will share publicly if any. I will simply say that I understood myself less than I thought. I have work to do.

The events surrounding the conception of John and Jesus are unlikely in one case and impossible in the other. The phrase, “With God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37), is virtually meaningless to most of us unless we encounter the impossible and overcome it. No woman before or after Mary has conceived of the Holy Ghost, yet the message from Gabriel to Mary applies to us all if our response is like hers; “Be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38).

Mary had a mission to perform, and so do we. She gave birth to the Savior of all mankind; we have been commissioned to be saviors on Mount Zion. If all we can manage is to save ourselves by accepting Jesus, it is enough. However, most of us can do more. Being a small s savior is part of the work and glory of God.

All of us will encounter things we consider impossible to accomplish or overcome. All of us will hit rock bottom at some time, in some way, and maybe more than once. I contend that if we never see hell, we will never see or appreciate heaven. If we don’t come to terms with the worst in us, we cannot become our best. However, if you enter into the dark without the light of faith, you may never emerge from it.

Do all you can to hear the word of the Lord. Try to develop your faith sufficient to meet your daily needs and stockpile a little more because you will need it on a day when things seem impossible.

I am confident in the word of God, the Savior of us all. Having faith in my Heavenly Father has never let me down. When I rely on Him, everything turns out right in the end, and I know it can be the same for you.
